Wotakoi: Love is Hard for an Otaku review

If you like slice of life anime about otaku lifestyle, you should watch “Wotakoi: Love is hard for an otaku”. The plot is pretty much a cliche, a group of otaku friends trying to cope with the everyday life challenges. Narumi Momose is an office worker who hides her Otaku lifestyle. On her first day at work, Narumi bumps into a childhood friend, a game otaku who casually asks her whether she will go to Comiket. That is where her secret is revealed. Narumi gets to know her other coworkers and realises that they are all otakus like her and there is no need for her to pretend in front of them. Gradually, their relationship will develop into a friendship.

The anime, while it’s not great, it is interesting to watch. Animation is good, but I did not like the female characters. They did not have that kawaii look I’d been expecting to see. Maybe it’s just me, but the girls in the series should be more kawaii. Other than that, animation is good. Theme songs were ok, but not too catchy and they won’t get stuck in your head easily. “Wotakoi: Love is hard for an otaku” is a good anime to binge watch on a chilly autumn evening, but it won’t impress you much if you are not a hardcore otaku.
